Autonomous flight is the ability of a drone to perform a flight mission without direct real-time pilot control. Instead of manual control, the drone follows a pre-programmed route. This route often consists of so-called "waypoints," which are specific GPS coordinates that the drone successively moves between. For orientation in space and task execution, the drone utilizes a combination of an onboard computer, a GPS module, and various sensors, such as cameras or obstacle detection systems. Thanks to this, the drone can autonomously perform tasks such as terrain mapping, object inspection, or creating smooth cinematic shots, without the pilot needing to constantly intervene in the controls.
