I have sensitive skin. I don't like to shave with classic razors (gilette, etc. ) I used the original series 7 (70s) for maybe 10 years. Unfortunately, it recently died of battery failure. I decided to upgrade to the series 9 and honestly I expected to not know the difference and it would be extra money wasted. In the end I am satisfied with the purchase because the shave is still a little better than with the series 7. And I shave once a week quite often so I can use the extra blade for longer beards. I also thought the cleaning station would be a waste. But it's quite nice to always have the razor cleaned, scented and lubricated before use. (Hopefully this will increase the life of the not-so-cheap blades). At the same time, I've had the cleaning cartridge in the station for about 2 months (about 10 shaves) and she still hasn't complained about wanting to replace it.
