As the basil grows big leaves on the top, the bottom of the plants isn't getting enough light, and it results in long, non-bushy plants with very long stalks and too few leaves. The plants are hardly branching out, but mostly growing upwards. Maybe this device is best if used as a way to give a head start to your plants. Once it reaches a good size, it could be repotted outdoors so that it can thrive in light from every angle.
