If you're going it alone, it's a good idea to put a cloth next to where you rest the separate top section and also take the wet cartridges out on the cloth. Many times I prefer to just pour the water out to avoid this more complicated manipulation. That's probably the biggest disadvantage. I was also curious about the "breeze" mode, but since even at the lowest level of this mode (1-3) there is a sharp increase in RPMs, I find it unusable. At higher speeds, the device is already quite noisy and disturbing. The problem would probably not be with the noise as such if it were constant. The problem I have is that for a while the device is completely silent and within a second it starts to rock and then randomly goes silent again. It's annoying and distracting. Not much for me either. The way it works is that you set the default fan power and it then drops 1 degree every 5 minutes. But it stops at speed 5, where it stays. For me, speed 1-3 is comfortable for sleeping. The five is already making unnecessary noise. Another problem with sleep mode is that the lights are still on (although perhaps dimly - but they are on). I end up using this fan by setting the power I need and leaving it on all the time. Close range 1-3 and then distance 10-15 (from max. about 24). I change the ice cartridges as and when, depending on how lazy I am: -) When two of us get together, it's quick and easy to do - one holds the top and the other swaps it while topping up the water. If the fan lasts a few years, I'll be happy.
