What I wanted from the phone before I bought it was: to be compact in the hand, to take excellent photos, to be waterproof, to have a fast processor without choppiness, to charge quickly, to have a decent sound, to last as long as possible on the battery. The Asus Zenfone 8 was a hot candidate along with the Iphone 13 mini or Iphone 12 mini. I felt I was leaning towards the Asus Zenfone 8, also ultimately decided by the better price and the fact that I am more inclined to Android systems. Asus Zenfone 8 runs on a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, which is great, nothing crashes, excellent is with this phone just taking pictures, photos are just great, videos also, you can see the image stabilization, settings, really good. Charging the battery is fast - 30w charger included, by the watch the phone is charged. At first I was worried about the battery life - it is 4000 mAh - but it lasted about a day, I was still wondering how to set it up better, and it is possible, it takes a bit of work to turn off services that you don't need or want, today (I'm not demanding to consume internet content and games) for work the phone lasts me up to 7 days (wifi always on, disabled automatic access of apps to the internet (I can read messages though), occasional photography, minimal music and video playback, normal strict communication with clients, etc. ), but if I start using the phone more, the battery life goes down, the two to three days are fine. For the phone's battery life, the Asus option to set the battery to ultra durable is also good, it helps a lot.
IP68 water resistance
compact size (ideal for the hand)
excellent photos
video with image stabilization (awesome)
excellent speakers
fast charging 30w
beautiful 120Hz amoled display
options for adjusting battery life
fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor
although it is dimensionally ideal in the hand, so without the case in the hand slides, (the cover that comes with the phone is also not ideal) after buying another case, but it's ok.
someone will argue that it lacks wireless charging, but you can live with that too, or buy a charging case somewhere (coil in the case to usb-c) like I did

For 500 CZK, I had a protective film glued on by Alza. It lasted two days and the display with it had a “rainbow grain“ like when it' s wet. I quit and would not use the service again

Quite a decent mobile at a still acceptable price, however, as with my previous asus, there are again bugs in the firmware and updates that are better blocked. After updating to Android 12 (which, by the way, is very ugly and a design step in the wrong direction) the proximity sensor completely stopped working, so when you make a call you press your ear on the display, this can be solved with an application from google play (without root) so be it, but for God' s sake why Asus why? This is a pretty important thing. But what I really like is the really solid performance, finally nothing gets cut, over the last 4 years the HW demands of applications and Android itself have increased so much that the previous Zenfone Zoom S phone was simply unusable. I like that it has slightly smaller dimensions than is customary today, approximately like old 5“ mobile phones, which is an ideal compromise between a still reasonably large keyboard and compactness in the pocket, mostly when you break the display, because the mobile phone is too big and it' s difficult to it holds, this mobile holds very well and the fact that it is a little thicker helps, the trend of thinnest mobile phones is probably over. The battery life when the display is on and when working on the mobile is quite weak, you can literally see how the battery percentages drop, but when the mobile is locked, the consumption is quite small, so if you don' t keep looking at it, it could last the 2 days in standby mode. If you tweak the battery modes, you will probably get a better endurance, but this is a tax for high performance, I would just expect that in 2022 the mobile phones will scale better and that it won' t eat up so much if you just fiddle with the icons on the desktop. In my opinion, the rounded corners of the display look rather unaesthetic, especially in combination with some applications where it doesn' t really fit, but that' s the time, you can' t find a mobile phone with a square display anymore, and the display probably couldn' t be that big. The mobile also does not contain any ballast and bloatware, which is definitely a positive development.
great system performance and speed
small size
5g, NFC and other conveniences that weren' t standard until recently
the phone does not contain any ballast or bloatware from the factory
Proximity sensor not working!
didn' t really like the update to Android 12, it' s a disgusting system
battery life is really weak when using the mobile phone actively

IP68
power
good sound quality
notification diode
headphone jack
little bloatware, mostly Google applications can' t be uninstalled
the ability to charge the battery only to 80% and theoretically improve its life, even if it has some annoying notifications and the system does not indicate it as charged (and it beats with endurance)
quite fast charging (up to 80% and probably even then)
too small for me
battery life is really lousy, especially compared to older models
normal use shortens the battery life much less than I would expect and saving features don' t improve it much, poor optimization?

The phone is a big disappointment for me, there could be really fewer shortcomings for the money. It' s awfully hard to say it' s a good phone, even though it has a great camera, it' s fast and the amoled display is amazing. It overheats, often gets stuck, the flashlight does not last anything (xiaomi lasted half as cheap on a 2.5 battery). Paired bluetooth devices are a chapter in themselves, they often don' t connect, disconnect, crash, or don' t recognize an already paired one, and everything has to be reset. The fingerprint reader on the display is completely useless, it does not respond. The proximity sensor is completely tragic; I wanted it because it was the only decently equipped and at the same time small smartphone, but I wouldn' t buy it again, the fact is that there are too many negatives.

Already my 4 asus phone, and I hope some things will improve here with updates. The fingerprint reader is really poor quality, the colour and resolution of the display is really bad for graphics for gamers it has 120mhz so the speed makes up for the poor colour quality and overall poor resolution. Batteries. 1 day max. Honestly I was more satisfied with the asus zenfone 5 this phone is fatter but smaller.

color and resolution of the display worse than previous models so if you want to look at quality photos so on this display not much
the fingerprint reader is a mordor most of the time the fingerprint does not read horribly shines through the display so over time burns out the wheel
Battery 1 day max
the side switch button is coloured
