I've had this device for a week and decided to share my impressions, because when choosing it I lacked a proper user review that would show me not only the pros, but also what can be a bit problematic. The Philips Series 9000 and the OneBlade MG9553/15 are supposed to be the perfect combination for beard and hair grooming, so I've summed up how it actually works in practice in the pros and cons. Would I recommend it? Yes, if you are willing to invest in a premium device and want something that works reliably and easily.
The Philips Series 9000 has a really powerful motor that can handle even thick beards. Shaving is fast and very precise. The head adapts to the contours of the face, the chin or the line under the nose is not a problem.
OneBlade is great for close-ups. I use it mainly for trimming the edges of my beard and fine tuning (around the neck. ).
The instruments look robust and premium. The combination of metal and quality plastic gives you the feeling that it will last for years. In addition, both are waterproof, easy to clean.
There are plenty of attachments included for different beard and hair lengths, which is great if you're alternating between different styles.
Compared to other trimmers I've had, the 9000 is pleasantly quiet.
After a week of use, I haven't had to charge the Series 9000 yet. OneBlade will last a little less.
This package is significantly more expensive than conventional trimmers. I understand that I'm paying for quality and versatility, but the price might be limiting for some.
While Philips boasts that it can handle haircuts, it's not its strongest suit. If you have thick and hard hair, the clippers may occasionally "stutter" a little. I find it more of an emergency solution than a full-fledged hair trimmer.
Replacement blades for the OneBlade are not the cheapest (I've looked at genuine spares) and will need to be replaced regularly, which adds to the overall maintenance costs. After a week, of course, everything is fine, but it's good to count on it.
The manual is quite brief and you have to figure some things out for yourself. For example, there are no recommendations on how to use the different attachments correctly or how to take the best possible care of the blades.
Philips cannot be charged via USB-C, which is common nowadays. If you forget your charging cable at home, you're in trouble, it's not easy to borrow or replace it somewhere.
