I’m comparing it with my previous phone, the Samsung S22 Ultra. In terms of design, I do prefer the Samsung, but on the other hand, its sharp edges tear my pockets, so from a practical point of view, Xiaomi comes out on top. As far as performance is concerned, the 17T Pro is clearly ahead of Samsung here; however, for my needs – which are mostly work-related apps – the difference is negligible. The situation is probably different in games, but I’m not really in a position to judge that. The display is on a par with Samsung’s. However, where Xiaomi really excels is in battery life. I’d seen ‘two days’ mentioned in the reviews, but I didn’t really believe it. Most of the phones I’ve had needed recharging on the first day. By the end of the evening, the battery was at 35%, even though the screen had been on for most of the day and I’d been using the phone. I haven’t noticed the increased heat build-up described in the reviews so far (again, I’m comparing it with the Samsung under the same conditions of use). I was a bit worried about switching to a different brand and, as a result, changing my whole environment, but it turned out not to be a problem.

I bought the phone as a replacement for the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. On paper, it wasn’t supposed to be much of an upgrade, but I’m very pleasantly surprised. The 17T is faster in every respect. Apps run faster, animations are smoother, and the fingerprint sensor is fast and reliable. With my normal usage, the battery easily lasts two days. I can’t really comment on the cameras as I hardly ever take photos and they’re not a priority for me, but the ones I’ve tried are definitely better than Motorola’s. I have no complaints about the display either. Lots of people complain about the large number of bloatware apps from Xiaomi. To be honest, I copied the settings from my previous mobile and I haven’t had any problems with these apps. Yes, they’re here, but the system doesn’t force them on me or offer recommendations for unsolicited apps. I had more trouble with this on my Motorola. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the system’s ‘Apple-like’ nature. I don’t know if this is common with Android 16 or just HyperOS 3, but I find it pointless to mimic the layout of menus, notification windows and the like, as seen on Apple products. Otherwise, though, I’m extremely satisfied. Plus, if you buy the 17T on special offer, I reckon it’s unbeatably the best buy.
