Once unpacked, the owner is greeted by a sophisticated aluminium chassis that fits very comfortably in the palm of the hand. The display is easy to read even in bright sunlight, which comes in handy in summer. Xiaomi’s operating system is simply the best – simple, fast and well-optimised. What bothers me a bit is the camera module on the right-hand side, which makes the phone look a bit wobbly when laid flat. I suppose you can’t really fault the lack of a power adaptor, as this is now standard practice – though it’s something I find hard to get on board with, so I’ve included it in the list of drawbacks. The final drawback is the higher price, although this is offset by the high quality of the device, a manufacturer’s discount and other benefits.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s a really big step up from the Redmi Note 9 Pro. The charging speed with the 90W charger is more than good. The camera is really great. System speed and responsiveness, too. My only complaints are the basic controls and the lack of PC compatibility. For example. When I press the power button, the ‘Power off, Restart’ menu doesn’t appear (or perhaps I haven’t yet worked out how to set it up), but only Hyper AI. This must be enabled via the accessibility settings only. There are still a lot of things I’ll have to figure out for myself, because finding detailed instructions online is almost impossible.
