As a long-time user of a physical 5.1 speaker system, I was looking for headphones for nighttime gaming. I first tried the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 Ohm, which I had connected to my Creative Sound Blaster Z with its virtual 3D sound. Despite the general praise, I returned them because the 3D sound and bass were not enough for me. These ASUS ROG Theta 7.1 headphones, which I bought unboxed, are a better choice for me, even considering their specific flaws. I have them connected to a PC running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 22H2, with the latest Armoury Crate drivers and 0044 firmware. ASUS ROG Theta 7.1 are the perfect compromise for me. Even though they have software bugs, that perfect and adjustable bass response is key for me and makes up for it. Compared to the DT 770 PRO, which disappointed me with its "flat" sound, here I got what I was looking for. If you're looking for powerful bass and unique technology for 3D sound, this is a great choice for you.
Perfect bass: Bass response is excellent and fully adjustable. For firing cannons in World of Warships, the sound is fantastic, which is a huge advantage over the analytical sound of the DT 770 PRO.
Adaptive 3D sound: Compared to the virtual 3D sound I had with the DT 770 PRO headphones, the ROG Theta multi-channel technology suits me a little better. After longer playing you get used to the sound and start to perceive it "more from behind". It's still not full 3D sound, but it's a functional compromise that's noticeably better in that regard.
High-end hardware: Eight-driver headphones with their own DAC/amplifier offer a unique sound experience.

Comfort and ergonomics: Despite the higher weight, the headphones are surprisingly comfortable even with prolonged use, thanks to the high quality and spacious earcups.
Technical errors: Occasionally there is a crackle and the sound transitions, for example when turning around a waterfall, are not smooth but rather "jumpy". This is probably caused by a bug in the firmware or drivers.
It will not replace a 5.1 speaker: Despite the advanced technology, no headphones can replace a full 5.1 speaker system. The sound behind you will simply never be like a physical speaker.
High weight: The headphones are quite heavy, which is the toll of the eight transducers in each shell. When worn for longer periods of time, their weight is noticeable.
Short cable: The cable is quite short. If your PC is under a desk or the USB ports are only at the back, the cable length may not be sufficient.

I threw the headphones in the trash and returned to PANASONIC .
