Verified purchase - review from a price comparison website

If you want a simple setup but have more requirements for default applications, this NAS may not be for you. But if you want a powerful NAS, where you (e.g. via docker) you can run significantly better applications than Asustor or even Synology offers, so this can be a great choice. For me, ADM5 is better than QTS5 (from QNAP) - much simpler and clearer, easier "out of the box" setup. It also has significantly fewer problems and is not as confusing. However, there are still shortcomings in the options for more advanced settings.

ADM5 (OS) is snappy, simple and quite smooth (minimum bugs)

Decent mobile apps

powerful HW, with great expandability (RAM, up to 4 SSDs)

lots of apps and even more 3rd party apps (if you trust them)

excellent guide to initial setup

quality construction

efficient ventilation (the fan always runs at minimum speed)

Lots of tutorials on the site - but for the initial and basic setup

support for PQE - post-quantum encryption for internet connections

HDMI support (if you don't mind the noise e.g. in the living room) - you can live as a multimedia or surveillance center

Some Asustor applications have major flaws - e.g. the photo app can't handle high quality photos (30MB) and then jams the whole NAS

only supports encryption of shared folders - not full disk encryption

some discs in it can be noisier

if you want to add an SSD, check the details - Asustor e.g. recommends 2 SSDs to host the OS (and it is necessary to install a NAS from scratch)

Almost all notifications are at the "INFO" level (even the security ones).
