If you have a quiet PC like me, you can hear it working. If the HDD is louder than the fans in the PC, I think it's just not good. On the 20 TB variant I just purchased, the write speeds are about 150-200 MiB/s and both the source and destination are encrypted with LUKS. I have several pieces of this and previous Seagate Expansion Desktop models of various capacities at home, bought over a range of many years, and I have no problems with them, some have held up for roughly over a decade (they don't run all the time, I only plug them in when transferring data). For me, the biggest shortcoming is the power supply, or rather the need to clip the right fork on it, which especially when pulling out of the socket likes to loosen from the slot. This is something to think about and pay attention to. Otherwise everything is OK.
