Nice device for the home server. Reasonable price compared to the DIY solution of the same size. Intuitive software The main cons is a hardware limitations, however.. - You can add up to 16gb ram more. I installed 8gb stick and it just works - You can use only official overpriced Synology SSDs as a storage pool. Other SSDs can be used only as a cache… until you find a guide how to bypass it via shell commands I like the quality of this device and I dislike that I have to read Reddit instead of official docs to get what I want. I like option to add RAM and run about ~20 docker containers or 2-3 VM.

Hdds are clicking even when I do nothing
Slow CPU for VMs

9/10, points down for 2GB RAM
Automatic synchronization of photos from the phone to the NAS (including Apple) via the Synology Photos app
Remote access to files from anywhere even outside the home without knowledge of port forwarding
Settings and environment User friendly even for a bfu like me
I use it as a machine for PLEX and a photo archive, which is perfectly suitable for these purposes
2GB of RAM is not enough to run a Win 10 virtual machine, I will have to upgrade over time

I ignored NASes for a long time and decided to get one quite late. Anyway, I am thrilled with it and it is the perfect toy. Not only because of the possibility of storing a huge amount of data, but also because of the possibility to run a lot of your own servers at home and not have to rely on cloud services. You can install Docker directly with the Synology package and then you can install a lot of other things. One drawback is that Synology only officially supports a very small amount of HW and with unsupported HW, one may find that either it won't run at all or the NAS will scream that the device is not supported. Anyway, for example. RAM can be expanded for a fraction of the price of the original memory and even to more than the manufacturer claims (he claims 6 GB with their module, I myself have 10 GB with a module from Crucial for about a quarter of the price compared to Synology memory). By default, it does not allow 3rd party NVMe drives to be used as storage, only as caches. However, you can use a script to make sure that other manufacturers' drives are compatible and then you can use, for example, a WD Red SSD as storage. This is especially useful for running Docker, which is very noisy on platters because it spins them constantly.
6 drive bays (4x HDDD, 2x NVMe SSD)
Solid expandability
Easy installation
Lots of SW directly from Synology
Possibility to run a lot of home servers (web, mail, vpn,. )
It would be nice to have 2 in case of a malfunction: )
Few officially supported components
