I returned the first piece because it didn' t work for me on macOS or Linux (reported USB errors) and on Windows the firmware update software said “connect to USB 3.0 port“ (I tried two different cables and three computers). Alza willingly exchanged it for me. Using a third cable and a computer with Windows 10, I managed to update the second piece of CU4K30 to the latest firmware version, so it was no longer so selective for cables and ports. But neither MacBook home saw him. After a few days and e-mailing with Asus support, I tried again and suddenly see them in OBS on both MacBoocs. I have no explanation. After the firmware update, I tried the capture function in OBS on macOS, Windows and Linux, it works everywhere. Passthrough is useful, one does not have to use an HDMI splitter to see what is happening on the scanned device. HDMI audio recording also works. As a source, I tested various HDMI and DVI outputs, except for iOS (see below) everything worked (for Playstation 4 after turning off HDCP). While trying to capture the iPhone / iPad screen, I came across that the device is aiming for active HDCP protection (with HDCP, passthrough works, but no longer scans). The CU4K30 is an HDCP compliant for passthrough, so the device (in this case a mobile / tablet) automatically sends an HDCP-enabled signal and it cannot be removed. The solution would perhaps be an HDCP stripper or HDMI splitter without HDCP support. Personally, for iOS devices, I will use a Chinese USB capture stick for $ 10. 🤷🏻‍♂️ In addition to the device itself, the package also includes an HDMI 2.0-HDMI 2.0 and USB-C-USB-A cable plus a USB-A-USB-C adapter. The device itself has a USB-C port. For commissioning, I definitely recommend using the included USB cable first.
