I really like this NAS. Especially when one sees what parameters Synology puts into their NASes, this NAS has enough parameters to be used as a normal PC. The N100 is a solidly powerful CPU which has a power consumption comparable to a laptop, the RAM is removable (1 slot, DDR5, 8GB in base, 4800MHz) and with the option to upgrade up to 16GB (16GB is the official max, unofficially I tried 32GB - works OK, just need to keep the speed at 4800MHz! ). The fan is also a replaceable 92x25mm 12V 4pin PWM fan, which I replaced with an equivalent Noctua fan and the NAS is not audible at all. The dust filter is the icing on the cake, as is the quality aluminium construction which is easy to get into. The drives themselves also allow for a lot of options: 2x M.2 SSDs, which can be used as storage or as a cache to accelerate writes and reads. Two slots for 3.5/2.5 inch drives are a matter of course, 3.5 drives can be installed without tools, 2.5 drives need to be screwed in. The disadvantage of this NAS is that the OS (UGROS) is installed on 32GB eMMC memory, which is perfectly fine if you don't plan to use another operating system, but it is a huge problem to install another OS on this memory (e.g. Truen). I managed to completely destroy the installation of the original OS when installing Truenas (I just wanted to test and compare with UGROS), so I was de facto forced to use one of the M.2 SSDs as the OS disk for Truenas and I almost didn't test UGROS. If this could be a problem for you too, I recommend rather a DXP4800 NAS, which *should* have the OS installed on a classic M.2 SSD. But I can testify that losing the SSD cache was not as much of a problem for me as it might seem. In my case, the NAS connection speed is limited to 1Gbps (which is probably the most common speed of home networking elements today), so even the speed of the HDDs is sufficient to saturate that speed in my testing. Thus, buying 2x M.2 SSDs as cache is a relative waste and I would recommend instead to make such a purchase only for the purpose of installing another OS (the second SSD can be used to install applications such as Immich, Tailscale, etc. ). Final verdict: I'm really satisfied, just the freedom that Ugreen allows (unlike Synology) makes this NAS worthwhile. It's just a shame about the eMMC OS disk, I would really welcome if they used e.g. 128GB 2230 M.2 drive.
