Let me start by saying that I am an enthusiast and have been using OLED monitors since their inception, whether you take the LG C2 42" TV or the first generation 21:9 Alienware as the origin. Since then, I've had at least one or more pieces of each generation of OLED displays. This display between them is like a symbol of a missed opportunity. Let's start with the out of the box experience. The first thing you do is take the monitor out of the box, turn on your pc, set up HDR, and make sure the maximum brightness is set to the maximum possible value in windows, as well as the refresh rate. At that moment you realize that about every 5cm you see vertical lines that look like a defect in the display. Besides the fact that the display is really dark even compared to other OLEDs. For inexperienced users this can be a big problem and cause for complaint, I lost my enthusiasm for the display about 5 seconds after turning it on and that's not a good start. The problem with the vertical lines was solved by refreshing the panel, that would be ok, but since the monitors will be running with the old firmware version for a few months the artifacts causing local circles of inconsistent brightness will be solved by an update via USB cable, I doubt more than 10% of users have ever updated the monitor firmware, I see that as a problem. But these problems have solutions and after solving them I am basically satisfied and everything was only software. But let's take a look at the real problems with this display, starting with the biggest one - the R800's curvature. I don't know what the matro at LG is taking that anyone thought this was a good idea, but it really isn't. In some games you can probably forget about it and it may work, but in most use-cases it will bother you. For this reason I would recommend the sister of this monitor, but nobody sells it in the Czech Republic yet - 45GX990A, which has a motorized bending function. so the monitor can be flat or curved. But I don't know if there is an option for this monitor to be set as too curved, and if the maximum curvature is not R800 like this monitor. Curvature is definitely a good thing and flat would probably not be ideal, but R1800 or R1400 curvature would be right for this display. Matte finish - although they tell you it's not better on the reflection, all matte displays just smear the light across the display and if you have the money for a monitor so you have it for the blinds, the problem is that when you have a dark room so the antireflex doesn't add any bonus but it deprives you of a really noisy black which is the whole point of OLED displays, on TVs there is a beautiful glossy finish and everyone has them in bright living rooms but on monitors it's still a "problem".
General implementation of LG's display - If I had the option and ROG made the same display I wouldn't even consider LG. ROG adds a lot of features for the price that they can't market as well but it's a match made in heaven. ROG adds an extra graphene layer to all OLED pmonitors for better cooling of the display, allowing for overall higher brightness, for longer, and with less risk of pixel burn-in. This prevents or at least strongly reduces the dimming of the display when you suddenly open a very bright browser window, etc. In conclusion, I would say that the monitor is poised to be the best money can buy, but only because of the panel type and resolution. LG's conception whether software issues, curvature, cooling or matte finish drag this monitor down though. If you have an OLED monitor e.g. ROG 32" 4K 240Hz OLED like I had before this monitor, you will be really disappointed. For this reason, I would advise everyone to wait for the next generation and implementation of this panel by other manufacturers - as you probably already know I have a soft spot for ROG because they just do it best. PS: dual mode I haven't tried I have no idea why I would want to switch a monitor that big to full hd resolution to get 330Hz. I have a 5090 but I don't play competitively and I don't see anyone who plays competitively choosing a monitor like that. it's a gimick and I wouldn't even consider it as an option. Not to mention that everyone who has tried it is criticizing it and again comparing it to ROG who at least made this feature on 32" 4k to have perfect scaling, which really makes this mod unusable nonsense.
