I made the mistake of believing the reviews here that it works well as a NAS. It really doesn' t work. If I had a USB drive connected to the Nvidia Shield TV, the transfer speed of writing to it over the home network (ethernet) was 67 MB/s. When I connected the USB drive directly to the router, the speed dropped to a terrible 10 MB/s via Samba, and to a quite acceptable 50 MB/s via the FTP protocol. Therefore, as a NAS, the 9-year-old Nvidia outperforms it many times over. It is difficult to guess what the problem is with the USB 3.0 port. The TUF series only has 512 MB of memory (versus the usual 1024), and some reviewers see this as a problem.
