The "Extendable router" designation just means it supports AiMesh, but the router can work on its own or in combination with other Asus AiMesh routers. Compared to the PRO version, it lacks some of the more advanced settings (specifically PPPoE for fibre optic internet, I didn't check for others - after connecting to AiMesh, it's no longer possible to access the settings).
Can function as a standalone router (it's not just an "Extension" for the PRO version as the name suggests)
When combined with the PRO version, it connects automatically using the AiMesh button - Add node (in the PRO version settings)
The WAN port can be used to connect to another router in AiMesh (you need to enable "Ethernet backhaul" in the AiMesh settings).
Does not support PPPoE (you need the PRO version for optical internet)
Slower WiFi 6 (1800Mbps instead of 3000Mbps on the PRO version)

A single WiFi 6 network is better than two (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz) and having to wait for your tablet or phone to switch from one network to the other, because the 5 GHz signal drops out after passing through two or three walls in the flat.
