WD Purple NV 8TB

The WD Purple NV 8TB hard drive belongs among the high load internal HDDs for monitoring systems operating 24/7. The 3.5" format is designed mainly for desktop computers and data centres. One of the crucial parameters is obviously the rotational speed of the HDD. 5400 RPM meets the needs of most ordinary PC users. You can look forward to a total data capacity of 8000 TB. The drive uses a 256 MB memory cache. It communicates with a PC or other devices via the SATA III interface.

WD Purple NV 8TB HDD Speed

The HDD boasts a unique design. Inside the hard drive there is a mechanism that utilises moving platters accompanied by hard disk heads that facilitate reading and writing of data. These moving parts are not particularly resistant against shock or impact, but this design delivers a great combo of a low price and great storage capacity. The crucial criterion that determines the speed of a hard drive is the number of revolutions per minute (RPM). In case of the WD Purple NV 8TB, you get 5400 RPM RPM. You can find these drives mainly in laptops and other devices meant for casual home use. System responsivity and overall stability is also affected by the disk buffer, usually called cache. The Western Digital HDD features a 256 MB cache that stores the last data inputs for their fast retrieval and reading.

Connecting the Hard Drive to Your PC

In order to mount the WD Purple NV 8TB in your laptop or other device, you need a 3,5" slot. Data transfer is done using the SATA III interface with a standard speed of 6 Gbit/s. The technology is one of the most popular HDD data transfer options available and delivers a throughput of 600 MB/s. The dimensions of the HDD are 101,6 × 147 × 26,1 mm.
