With over 40 years' experience, Acer is a well-known global brand in the field of computer hardware. Acer ranks among the largest Asian companies in general and is the fourth largest IT company in the world.

Establishment of the Acer brand

It all began in 1976 when Stan Shin founded a small business, Multitech, which focussed on the manufacture of semiconductor devices. From the beginning, the company focussed on teaching and training in the field of microprocessors, so it is no surprise that their first commercially successful product was in this area. Thanks to the popularity of its products, Acer went on to dominate the Asian market during the 1980s.

Acer in Europe

At the turn of the 20th Century, the Acer brand was virtually unknown outside of Asia. On the European market, their products were only sold under big names like HP and DELL.
