Hello, thank you for your suggestion, which we have checked with the supplier. Plug&Play is Microsoft's term for the easy and automatic installation of a device into a system. In the case of Linux, it tends to be a bit more complicated and less user-friendly. However, the supplier has a driver for this device available on the web. You can download it and get the hardware running on your system.

If you still can't get enough of legendary machines like the Lenovo ThinkPad T430, you've probably hit a wall called BIOS Whitelist. You'd like modern Wi-Fi, but your laptop just won't allow the internal card without a risky BIOS flash. The Mercusys MA14N is an ingeniously simple and inexpensive solution in this respect. you don't have to deal with modified BIOSes or hardware programmers. You just plug it in and go. Installation without internet: Huge advantage! After the first insertion, the adapter logs into the system as a virtual disk (flash drive) on which the drivers are stored. Just click, install, and within a minute the drive "transforms" into a working Wi-Fi card. No more searching for CDs or downloading from another PC. Nano dimensions: The dongle is so small you don't even know it's in the port. With the T430, which is built like a tank, it doesn't stick out and you can leave it in the USB port even when carrying it in your bag.
Size (Truly "Nano", not in the way)
Installation excellent (Drivers are directly in the adapter)
Stability in a disturbed apartment block
Unobtrusive black plastic that matches the ThinkPad chassis
The description of the WiFi adapter is somewhat inaccurate. It is not true that it works immediately after plugging in. When plugged into Windows (tested on W10 and W11), it logs in as an external drive on which the driver is stored. After installing the driver, it only appears as a WiFi adapter.
Favorable price if it would work
Out of several routers, it only connected to a repeater from the same company, and at a very slow speed
In other cases, an error message came up that it was unable to connect
For now, I wouldn't recommend buying this otherwise interesting product on paper and price if the target is a Linux platform (either a microcomputer or an old PC that can't handle Windows anymore). Current Linux distributions based on Ubuntu use the 6.8 kernel (and elsewhere, except perhaps RHEL, it's no worse). You simply cannot install the current driver from this manufacturer (see negatives). Forget about similar products from TP-Link (TP-Link Archer TX1U Nano), where they are exactly the same. After all, Mercusys is apparently a budget division of TP-Link and the driver is identical.
Newer WiFi 6 standard
probably fine on Windows
Linux over-support
The driver+firmware for the aic8800 chip is not yet part of the kernel.
The current driver doesn't support current Linux kernels >= 6.3 and even then the installation is a complete brute - no readme, no support for DKMS or any common distribution formats like. deb or. rpm.
I had it unopened for a few days after I bought it. Then I tried connecting it to my home computer, it's plug-and-play, just insert it into the USB slot and it should work. It's not working. It shows the networks in range but does not connect. I tried connecting with my correct username and password, but all attempts failed.
I took the Mercusys MA14N Wi-Fi adapter to a friend's house, we tried it on his computer and the story is the same. He can see the networks, but he's not connecting.
Then I started searching the internet for the manufacturer's website and the information they provide. There is some software (for plug-and-play), I installed it and nothing happened. It's still not working.
I contacted the faculty IT department and asked if there was a problem with my password or something. The answer was negative, from my side and from their network (eduroam) everything is fine. After sending me information about the wifi adapter, I was advised to buy a new one because it is unusable with most European and global networks, which are standardized differently than the new Chinese one.
I will file a complaint with the dealer and ask for a refund
