Valve Index is a virtual reality headset with a 130° field of view using two LCD panels with a resolution of 1,440 × 1,600 pixels per eye. The total resolution is therefore 2,880 × 1,600 pixels. The base refresh rate is 120Hz, but you can also use lower frequencies - 80 and 90 Hz for backwards compatibility and an overclocked mode with 144Hz.
The Valve Index headset features a two-element lens system with a 5° tilt. The lenses are particularly notable for maintaining sharpness over most of the field of view. This makes it easier to see the image in the periphery. You will appreciate that the goggles allow you to adjust the distance of the lenses from the eyes and the lenses themselves from each other. The front of the Valve Index features two 960×960 pixel cameras that capture the outside environment, allowing for augmented reality. Another neat detail are the non-contact headphones, which completely immerses you in virtual reality. There's also a 3.5mm jack for connecting your own headphones and, of course, a microphone.
You'll also appreciate the ergonomic design made of antibacterial materials. The face mask is also replaceable. The Valve Index uses external Base Station sensors with a laser beam for motion sensing. The quality and longer range of the stations is guaranteed by the SteamVR Tracking 2.0 technology. You can connect the headset to your computer using DisplayPort 1.2, USB 3.0 and 12V power supply.
