D-Day June 6, 1944 - The climactic battle of World War II
Legendary World War II historian Stephen E. Ambrose's book, D-Day, June 6, 1944 - The Climactic Battle of World War II, is based on 1,400 oral accounts of men who took part in the invasion of France in June 1944. For the first time, he reveals that the whole complex plan was almost cancelled before the first shot was even fired. The author's true history is about citizen-soldiers (junior officers and rank-and-file soldiers), who, once they realized that they were in a completely different situation, than what they've been prepared for, took the initiative on their own, to break Hitler's Atlantic Wall.
The book contains gripping descriptions of the fighting on the beaches of Omaha and Utah, based on information provided by the U.S, British, Canadian, French and German veterans, government and private archives. The author, a distinguished American military historian and an admirable storyteller, gives in the pages of this book the story of the most important day in 20th-century history.
