Shadows of the past

Investigator Filip has the job he always dreamed of – solving murders in Prague's 'First Department'. But instead of a sense of purpose, he feels fatigue, cynicism, and a silence that is creeping into his life and his relationship with his partner, Klára. When a human hand, severed with surgical precision, is found on the banks of the Vltava, he gets the case no one else wants – a case that could decide his future.

Without the support of his field operatives, under pressure from an ambitious superior, and knowing that this time there is no backing down, Filip pieces together the mosaic of a brutal crime from the discovered body parts. Each new find brings him closer to the truth – and deeper into a world where the line between professional instinct, obsession, and personal failure becomes dangerously blurred.

Stíny minulosti (Shadows of the Past) is more than just a crime novel about a murder investigation. It's a raw account of police work without the glamour, of lost ideals, of relationships that can't withstand the pressure of reality, and of a man who must figure out if he still knows why he's doing any of it.

Prague as you've never seen it. A case that can't be put aside. And a cop with nowhere left to run.
