The Beast

The brutally addictive debut novel by magician and illusionist Andrew Mayne. Bioinformatics professor Theo Cray is not having the best morning. The ice machine isn' t working, and the police are breaking into his motel room. However, he only learns that he is the prime suspect in the brutal murder of his former student when his involvement in the shocking event is ruled out. It seems that a young girl was mauled by a bear in the Montana forests. But Professor Cray, due to his profession, is used to seeing patterns where others find only chaos. And so he notices something that others have overlooked. Something unnatural. Something clearly made by human hands. Theo understands that this atrocity was not committed by an animal, but by a human, and that it was certainly not the first time he had done it. And because the police don' t believe him, it begins to become clear to him that he is probably the only person who can stop the killer. Although Theo is more familiar with digital codes and microbes than he is with forensic evidence evaluation, he must now apply everything he knows to a completely new area of research. And stay one step ahead of a dangerously inventive serial killer. whose existence, moreover, no one but him believes in.
