QuTS hero operating system
The storage supports the QuTS hero operating system, which provides data protection and data reduction. This system uses the ZFS file system to maintain data integrity and prevent data corruption. If needed, users can switch to the standard QTS operating system, which is suitable for regular team synchronisation tasks.
Instant snapshots for data protection
Copy-on-write technology helps create data snapshots almost instantly without affecting ongoing write operations. The system's capacity allows you to create one snapshot every hour for seven years without needing to delete any. Data protection is enhanced by the ability to replicate volume and LUN snapshots to a remote NAS device. This process only transfers the changes made, saving both bandwidth and time, and users can run it manually or on a fixed schedule.
High availability with two devices
To guard against unplanned outages and data loss, you can create a high-availability cluster from two units. One server acts as the active server and the other as the passive one, with synchronisation occurring in real time. In the event of an active server failure, the passive server takes over within one minute, ensuring service continuity.
Hosting virtual machines and containers
The device serves as a universal host for multiple virtual machines running Windows, Linux, UNIX, Android, or QuTScloud. Container Station supports Docker, LXD, and Kata Containers virtualisation technologies for creating microservices. You can allocate network resources using the integrated network switch. By installing a compatible PCIe SmartNIC card with Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) support, you can also assign the bandwidth of a physical card directly to virtual machines, reducing the load on the processor.
Fast network connection
Network connectivity is provided by two 25GbE interfaces. The sequential read speed is 12769MB/s and the write speed is 10281MB/s when fully populated. For the purposes of artificial intelligence calculations, big data analysis, and training large language models, the device supports the NFS over RDMA protocol. This protocol creates a fast connection between AI servers and storage, bypasses CPU load, and provides direct memory access with low latency.
