An innocent game

Little Lucia is excited to go home with her new classmate, Josie, so they can play together. What's more, she's allowed to sleep over for the first time! Her mum, Elisa, is really impressed by Josie's mum, Line, and her beautiful home. She says goodbye to her daughter peacefully, not suspecting that her whole world is about to fall apart. The next day, the house is empty. It turns out that Line – or the woman who called herself Line – had only rented the house and has disappeared without a trace, taking both girls with her.

The police launch a Europe-wide search, and Elisa and her husband, Fredrik, find themselves under scrutiny. As the pressure mounts, old secrets come to the surface, and the facade of the perfect family gradually crumbles. Reporter Selma also starts her own investigation, slowly unravelling the complex web of relationships and lies. It seems the stranger had her own reason for the kidnapping, and doubts begin to creep in...

A breakneck narrative pace, several different perspectives, and three strong heroines are the main ingredients of this successful thriller, which was adapted into a TV miniseries by Disney+ in 2025. Czech readers will be familiar with the character of Selma and the author's favourite town of Sandefjord from the successful title *Když zmizela* (Metafora, 2024).
