APC Easy UPS BV 500VA (SCHUKO)

The APC Easy UPS BV 500VA with SCHUKO is a Standby topology unit that protects home electronics and computer systems. It offers an apparent power of 500VA and a real power of 300W. At a half load of 150W, it powers connected devices for 5 minutes, and at a full load of 300W, it provides a backup time of 0.5 minutes. This UPS with AVR corrects voltage fluctuations without switching to battery power. All four Schuko-type output sockets protect against surges and provide battery backup. Its compact dimensions of 92.5×160.5×305mm allow for floor installation or wall mounting.

Topology and performance

This backup power supply operates with a Standby (Off-line) topology. During normal operation, it powers appliances directly from the mains and switches to battery power during an outage with a typical response time of 6ms. The output voltage on battery has a stepped approximation to a sinewave waveform. AVR corrects undervoltage and overvoltage without activating the battery, thereby extending its lifespan. The efficiency at full load reaches 96.9% and at half load 94.1%.

Battery and integrated protection

Inside the unit is a maintenance-free 12V / 4.5Ah lead-acid battery, which the user can replace themselves at the end of its lifespan (typically 3–5 years). A full battery recharge takes approximately 8 hours. The device does not support capacity expansion with external battery modules. The surge protection absorbs energy up to 156J, protecting connected electronics from power spikes. The cold start function activates the UPS even without input power.

Management and communication

This device does not include communication interfaces such as USB or a serial port. For this reason, it does not support connection to a computer or the installation of power management software. The unit does not provide functions for automatic operating system shutdown or remote status monitoring. Status is indicated only by LED indicators and audible alarms. A fixed 1.5-metre long cable with a Schuko CEE 7/7P plug connects it to the mains. For the output, it offers four Schuko CEE 7 sockets. All four outputs provide both battery backup and surge protection. The device does not have RJ-45/RJ-11 ports for data or phone line protection.
