The railway tracks end in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. And so does Záviš Brieftrager, whose old-new job has brought him to the Wallachian Open Air Museum. However, his new beginning will be far from as peaceful as he had hoped.

After many years, his teenage daughter, Anežka, comes to visit. Záviš gets one last chance to mend their relationship and decides to take the first step—he stops drinking. But one night, the most precious building in the entire open-air museum burns down—the old wooden church from Budišovice. And on that same night, Anežka disappears.

While rumours of satanists, strange attacks, and connections between the local underworld and the casino circulate through the town, Záviš breaks another of his resolutions—that he will never get involved in another investigation again. While searching for Anežka, he stumbles upon a case from the 1930s, when the police in Budišovice searched in vain for a mysterious attacker. And he soon realises that some stories are better left buried…
