Autocracy s. r. o.
The ebook includes a foreword from 2025 that reflects changes in U.S. policy.
Modern autocracies - regimes operating on the principle of international kleptocracy - are among the distinctive phenomena of the 21st century.
Today's autocratic states do not form a common organisational structure and their relations are no longer based on a shared ideology as they were in the past. Their leaders are single-mindedly focused on a ruthless and single-minded pursuit of personal wealth and power. They are convinced of their inviolability, are indifferent to international criticism, and often use undisguised violence to advance their interests.
Modern autocracies work closely together, helping each other and protecting each other when necessary. Many of them obtain their financial resources through illegal trade. Their common feature is an uncompromising effort to deprive their own citizens of any influence on the functioning of the state, to suppress any transparency and to persecute anyone who opposes them. On social networks and other media, they spread not only their own propaganda, but also a large amount of fake news, through which they try to influence public opinion in democratic countries.
