David Landström, on the cusp of a successful career as a drag queen, is brutally murdered in his Sandhammaren home. Twelve years later, his death remains unsolved, and all that remains is an unfinished documentary about his life.

When a journalist investigating the case is shot, Tess Hjalmarsson, head of the Skåne cold case team, decides it's time to reopen the investigation. Malmö is gearing up for the dramatic Eurovision final, a terrorist threat hangs over the city, and police are everywhere. In this grim atmosphere, the detective begins to delve into the world of a local nightclub. Soon, she and her partner, Marie Erlingová, find themselves in the middle of a dramatic investigation and a hunt for a perpetrator who shows no regard for anyone or anything.

On top of all this, Tess unexpectedly inherits a large house in Stockholm and is horrified to discover that her girlfriend, Sandra, seems keen to swap the Österlen countryside for life in the capital.
