Cottagers of the Silver Screen
Owning a country cottage or cabin is a phenomenon that affected almost the entire urban population in the Czech Republic during the second half of the twentieth century. The famous actors of that era were no exception. The book Chalupáři stříbrného plátna (Silver Screen Cottagers) offers a readable account of how our film and theatre stars spent their leisure time in the countryside, fishing or in a village pub, how they improved their summer homes, and who they hosted at their recreational retreats. Often, their bond with these places was so strong that they eventually left Prague – and found their final resting place in the countryside.
This extraordinary publication, which also serves as a collection of tips for lovely family trips, includes a wealth of photographic documentation, making it easy to find the specific buildings. The photographs from his expeditions to the cabins and cottages of unforgettable Czech actors were taken by the book's author, Radek Laudin, a journalist and publicist who has long been interested in journeys to places in our homeland associated with famous personalities.
