Darkness
The third book in the bestselling series with crime novelist Martin Servaz
On Christmas Eve, Christine Steinmeyer, a radio presenter from Toulouse, discovers a letter in her mailbox from a woman announcing her suicide. Christine is convinced that the letter arrived in her mailbox by mistake. Isn't it? Hoax? But the next day she gets a call on the radio from an unknown listener who accuses her of having done nothing. Soon the insults, threats and various incidents will multiply. It's as if someone is trying to take control of her life, which starts to crumble under her hands like a house of cards and turns into a nightmare. Martin Servaz is being treated at a clinic for police officers suffering from burnout syndrome. He is haunted by bad dreams about his former love Marianne, kidnapped by serial killer Julian Hirtmann. One day he receives an envelope in the mail containing an electronic card from a hotel room where an artist committed suicide a year ago. Someone wants Martin to go back to work. And Martin Servaz feels ready.
What if our loved ones are not what they seem? What happens when someone takes control of your life and relationships?
What's hiding in the dark? Don't turn out the light... and if you do, prepare for the worst!
Bernard Minier
Bernard Minier grew up in the south-west of France and spent his childhood in the Pyrenees. He studied at the University of Toulouse, where Martin Servaz, the protagonist of several of his thrillers, comes from. He has lived near Paris for more than twenty years, is married and has two children. Before Minier surprised French readers and critics in 2011 with his detective novel Frost, he worked as a customs officer. This belated, and perhaps therefore mature, debut won several awards, such as the Elle magazine Readers' Choice Award (in the mystery category) and, most notably, the Prix Polar, a major award given at the Cognac Festival of Detective Fiction. Frost has been translated into several world languages, including English, and was also the basis for the French television series Glacé. Minier's other books are also a success among readers and critics.
