Daughter of the Mist
61 AD
Britannia has fallen to the Romans, but when the conquering army betrays the dead King Prasutagus by dishonouring his daughters, his wife Boudicca decides to win her country back. Brea, an Iceni slave, remembers little from before the Roman occupation and has grown accustomed to the idle and extravagant Roman lifestyle. She diligently fulfils her duties, caring for the naive Aurelia, the future wife of the handsome war hero Marcellus, but she never stops longing for freedom and to be reunited with her long-lost father.
The Present Day
When Hanna returns to Norfolk after years spent abroad, the strange dreams that plagued her throughout her adolescence begin to reappear. These dreams gradually start to merge with the present, as she sees a phantom in the mists over the marshes, and then, to her utter astonishment, discovers that a new person, who seems very familiar, has moved into her childhood home. Hanna slowly realises that she is somehow connected to a tragedy that occurred many years ago. Meanwhile, Brea begins to understand that her fate is inseparable from that of her Roman master. As the general uprising draws ever closer to their home, Brea must make a fateful choice between love and loyalty, and Hanna must find a way to make peace with the past.
