Its publisher found in it references to both the personal story of his own childhood and the historical causes of the global catastrophe that followed in the 21st century.
Institutionalised good, when it forgets the human element, can very easily degenerate into tyranny. People open to social progress considered Zamyatin's and Orwell's critiques of this development to be exaggerated, overlooking the good that the revolutionary left brings and unnecessarily accentuating the occasional shortcomings and missteps on the path to a brighter future.
Perhaps it is time for a new Orwell to bring that future closer to us today.
