Don't raise a motherf*cker: Become the parent your children deserve
Whether you're a parent, want to be a parent, or simply have parents, this book gets to the heart of who you are and how you show up in the world – so you can take full responsibility for steering your own life and show any children how to steer theirs.
Gary John Bishop argues that we don't need more parenting tips, tricks, and techniques; we just need to change who we are. We can never live up to the model of the “perfect parent” we've created in our heads – a Frankenstein version of a mum and dad cobbled together from our childhood, cultural ideals, social media, and everything else.
We want to be good parents, but our past holds us back. If you tell yourself, “I can't be a good parent because I had a bad childhood / bad parents / trauma,” then stop! Let go of what was and start acting authentically and based on the present. By doing so, you'll set an example for your children and prepare them to face the world with confidence and live life to the full.
