Nobody loves musicals more than Riley – her dream is to become a director on Broadway. But when the spring school musical is cancelled, Riley has to find a way to bring it back. That's easier said than done, though, because she's had to take a part-time job at her father's gaming shop, for whom business is more important than his own family.
Riley can't waste time on a part-time job when her future depends on making a name for herself this year. So she persuades her colleague, Nathan Wheeler, a bespectacled boy with messy hair whom she barely knows from school, to help her. In return, Riley will help him make his fellow gamer, whom he has a crush on, jealous. It also won't hurt to show her egotistical ex-boyfriend, Paul, what he lost when he left her.
Riley and Nathan soon become a “couple” and people are falling for their charade. But to make it believable, Riley has to join a Dungeons & Dragons group. Riley is surprised by how much she enjoys the game. And even more surprising is that flirting with Nathan takes much less acting effort than she initially thought...
