France against Europe (2nd edition)
We know a great deal about the French Revolution and about Napoleon and his battles. However, the French Revolutionary Wars, which France waged from 1792 to 1802, are a relatively unknown subject. Until now, Czech readers could only find brief passages or fragmentary mentions of the wars against the European monarchies scattered throughout general works and shorter articles on the French Revolution or Napoleon Bonaparte.
This publication is an attempt to provide a more comprehensive outline of the military history of the entire period. Its concept offers a complete and, at the same time, acceptably detailed orientation to the course of these wars for the first time. It focuses on describing military operations and the basic characteristics of significant clashes on all fronts. In parallel, it briefly and to the necessary extent also attempts to capture their international political context and the important aspects of the ten-year development of the French army in the pre-Napoleonic period.
