Higher justice

When the law fails, revenge ensues. What if justice is blind and murderers remain free? Then someone must come along who will not let them escape unpunished. In Uppsala, Sweden, police are investigating a series of brutal murders of young women, the killer not choosing them at random. His victims are connected by one night ten years ago and an unjust verdict that destroyed the lives of innocent people. The bloody crimes will be handled by Vanja, who has moved from Stockholm and temporarily taken a position as a criminal investigator in nearby Uppsala. When the State Commission for the Investigation of Murders is called into the case - including her biological father, Sebastian Bergman, who has since returned to writing and lecturing - the members of the disintegrating team must put personal feuds and dark secrets aside to prevent the self-proclaimed avenger from carrying out further executions. The sixth installment of the globally successful crime series starring the brilliant police psychologist Sebastian Bergman, which readers and listeners cannot praise enough thanks to its fast pace, high level of tension, and unexpected plot twists. " Three powerful stories in one novel. " This is not a book for those who are satisfied with a dozen detective stories. ” – Upsala Nya Tidning, Sweden “Sebastian is once again charismatic, provocative and at the same time disturbingly fascinating. A great read for fans of Nordic crime fiction who like a clever plot and a dense atmosphere. ” – Databazeknih.cz “Hjorth and Rosenfeldt have achieved the almost impossible. Their prose pulsates with life, and their characters will linger in your minds and hearts for a long time. You will fall in love with the main character despite his nature, and the plots are so intricate that you will not be able to stop wondering. " - Severskedetektivky.cz " The exciting reading is slowed down a bit by extensive passages devoted to family affairs, but this brake is compensated by brisk and witty dialogues and slightly cynical humor, which is quite unusual in books of this type. " - Alena Slezáková, iDnes.cz " Excellent series. The sixth installment of the series about police psychologist Sebastian Bergman is nothing like its predecessors. Suspense from beginning to end, many surprising twists and excellently portrayed characters. ” – Litteratursiden. dk, Denmark “I understand you, Vanja. I can’t say I’ve heard much good about him. ” Anne-Lie stood up, walked to the window, and stared out at the cars passing by on the roundabout eight floors below them. " But it' s only a matter of time before the press picks up on it. " And it will spread. And in that case, I want to know that I did what I could. Bringing the best profiler in the country onto the case is a step in the right direction. ” Vanja realized she was nodding. From a purely police perspective, there was undoubtedly something to Anne-Lii' s reasoning. “Putting aside personal bias, ” Anne-Lie spoke again, turning back to Vanja, “isn’t he doing his job well? ” Vanja had no intention of having any part in Sebastian’s appearance in and around Uppsala, so she remained silent. Which in itself was enough of an answer. " He will spend the entire time here with his fly buttoned and will behave properly. " - excerpt from the book
