The second instalment in the Black Ops series focuses on the hacker Brigid Banaghan, who was caught hacking a government computer and is now forced to work for a secret federal unit, and her handler, the mysterious and sexy Raider Tanaka. Together, they must infiltrate the Irish mafia and, among other things, prevent human trafficking. They are helped by the rest of the team from the previous book, In the Shadows, including Roscoe the German Shepherd, who loves high heels, makeup, and Jack Daniels, and an abandoned kitten named Kota, as well as investigative reporter Dana Mullberry, the girlfriend of another member of the unit, Agent Wolfe.
Complicating the situation is the fact that the suspects include Brigid's father, Sean Banaghan, a former member of the Coonan gang. To clear his name, Brigid needs Raider's help, but she must keep a secret from the team, and especially from Raider—a secret whose revelation could mean the end of their partnership.
