Jiří Adamíra - Noble King of the Czech Stage

Jiří Adamíra was one of the greatest Czech actors of the second half of the twentieth century. His breathtaking performances were built not only on his undeniable talent, but also on his sharp intellect, deep knowledge, thoughtful approach to roles and his sense of responsibility to the audience. His fascinating personal charisma was combined with a precise dose of disarming dry humour and irony. Alongside an admirable career, marked by hundreds of perfectly portrayed roles, he also lived a fascinating personal life, which was unfortunately cut short by a debilitating illness.

The very first publication dedicated to this great actor explores both of these life stories, not only based on a thorough study of all available sources, but also thanks to unique and unpublished accounts from colleagues, partners, and friends. To name just a few: his life partners Hana Maciuchová and Ljuba Benešová, his son Marek Adamíra, and colleagues Miroslav Krobot, Josef Vinklář and Jan Kačer.

In 2014, the book received an Honourable Mention in the international E. E. Kisch competition.
