The Desire for Freedom: The Story of Anna and Lucia Across Generations
A deeply human story based on true events, with the desire for love, recognition, and the freedom to decide one's own fate running through it like a common thread.
Eighteen-year-old Anna, afflicted with polio, rebels against her cruel upbringing and the fate of a servant girl her mother has chosen for her. In the autumn of 1938, without any family support, she leaves her backward Slovak village for Bratislava and then on to Prague. Here, she wants to fulfil her dream of studying medicine. Anna's determined nature also influences her daughter, Lucia. Her mother's harsh, prejudice-filled upbringing leads to defiance, infidelity, and ultimately, a family tragedy.
