One hundred flowers

Izumi Kasai and his mother Yuriko have an unwritten agreement – even if they don't see each other for the entire twelve months, they will celebrate the last night of the year together. It has been this way for a long time (with a single exception, which is never mentioned), and this year too, Izumi is preparing for his regular visit to his mother's home. But something is different; Yuriko is acting strangely, and Izumi gradually realises that his mother is fighting an invisible enemy against which she has no chance. Now it's up to him to guide Yuriko safely through a world that has stopped making sense to her, while also protecting their shared memories. However, this is no easy task, not only because he must also deal with a complicated work situation and the impending birth of his first child, but also because of a blind spot in his own past that represents a painful question mark in his relationship with his mother.

This moving story of a son and his mother, afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, realistically portrays the sadness of slowly losing a loved one, but at the same time offers a unique perspective on how memory and recollections shape our personality and life.
