When a patrol discovers an unusual life form during a routine check of the area around their space station, they disregard protocol and attempt to investigate it themselves. However, their reckless action has catastrophic consequences. It soon becomes clear that they are dealing with an alien whose abilities exceed anything humans have ever imagined. It is a parasite that spreads through space and can steal the identity of its victims. It takes their skin, looks like them, and even adopts their personality. It mimics their speech, appearance, and behaviour. Human skin provides it with a perfect disguise that is almost impossible to detect.
And by the time humanity finally realises it faces extinction, it is almost too late.
People are losing their communication networks, which are collapsing under the relentless advance of the aliens, and hundreds of space stations are left to their fate. If the networks and communications are not restored, humanity will not survive. A handful of individuals sent on a suicide mission to save the last communication hub must find a way to counter this threat. If they fail, not only will they perish, but all of humanity will soon follow.
