Practical paediatric medicine
The aim of the editors and authors of this monograph is not to replace a textbook of paediatrics and other specialisms; the book is practically oriented and reflects day-to-day medical practice. This new edition has been completely revised and expanded with new chapters.
The book covers the entire breadth of issues in paediatric and adolescent general practice. The general section focuses on topics such as the organisation of primary care in paediatrics in the Czech Republic, assessment issues, preventive check-ups, vaccinations, care of newborns and infants, including at-risk newborns, issues related to school-aged children, and specific care for adolescents. The special section is devoted to differential diagnosis and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for the most common diagnoses encountered by a general paediatrician in a given organ system or paediatric subspecialty (cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, haematology, pneumology, neurology, genetics, dermatology, and others).
In the second edition, the authors respond to the rapid development of medicine during the COVID pandemic and have added chapters on newly emerging infectious diseases, especially COVID-19, as well as the complications accompanying their convalescence. Chapters in both the general and special sections have also been supplemented and expanded, covering changes in the spectrum of screening examinations for children and adolescents. Entirely new chapters have also been included, responding to migration waves and increased population diversity, the inclusion of which was necessitated by changes in the lifestyles of our patients' families or the changing conditions of care for children and adolescents. Because the textbook primarily reflects the day-to-day practice of a general paediatrician, the second edition is also expanded with chapters devoted to the details of conducting preventive check-ups.
The book is intended primarily for general practitioners for children and adolescents, but also for clinical paediatricians, doctors from collaborating specialisms, and medical students can also draw from it.
