Prague sports venues in the changes of time

This publication explores a specific area of social history within the historical territory of the capital city of Prague, focusing on the history of physical culture and its consumption. The individual parts of the text focus on selected Prague localities (Vltava, Letná, Strahov), which are connected by the concept of sites of memory related to the development of physical culture and its historicisation. The text does not present an exhaustive overview of the development of Prague's sports facilities, sports and physical education clubs, or individual sporting events. Instead, against the backdrop of key events in the field of physical culture, it addresses the changes in its perception within the individual localities mentioned. In addition, it focuses primarily on the historical transformation of these places from the perspective of leisure time, whether individual or organised.
This richly illustrated publication, with more than 450 photographs, is published as a co-edition by the Grada publishing house with the National Museum and with the support of the Czech Olympic Academy of the Czech Olympic Committee, which has a long-standing collaboration with the National Museum on the protection of the Olympic and sports heritage and making it accessible to the public.
