Psychology of Adolescents
What is it like to be an adolescent in today's world? This comprehensive monograph offers an integrated perspective on the period of adolescence from the standpoint of developmental and social psychology. A team of more than thirty experts presents adolescence as a dynamic, multi-layered period influenced by biological, psychological, and cultural factors, thus offering a current view on the psychology of adolescence.
The publication focuses on the development of adolescents' emotions and cognitive abilities, the transformation of their self-concept, their relationships with parents, peers, and partners, as well as topics that characterise the young generation – body image, sexuality, health, loneliness, giftedness, civic engagement, and spirituality. The authors connect theoretical approaches with the results of contemporary studies, including empirical data from the Czech environment. They are thus building on the long-standing tradition of psychological research on adolescents at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University.
The book is intended for students and professionals in psychology, pedagogy, social work, and healthcare, and for anyone who wants to better understand the world of adolescents.
