Reindeer hunters

The story of love, tradition and the search for light in dark times continues

The sequel to The Bell in the Lake, set twenty-two years later. One of the architect's sons, Jehans, was raised by foster parents and has grown into a skilled hunter and farmer. The pastor still blames himself for his failure to save the church and its bells, and he continues to search for the mysterious woven tapestry depicting the Night of Ruin, when our world will end. Jehans is an open-minded man who decides to bring light to his backward community with the first electric lamps. His twin brother, Victor, grew up in England under entirely different circumstances. They meet during a reindeer hunt in the Norwegian mountains and experience dramatic moments. With the help of the local pastor, they understand that they are brothers and should try to retrieve the bell from the lake. Ten years later, Victor goes off to fight in the Great War as one of the first pilots—and his experiences are in many ways reminiscent of the world's end depicted on the old tapestry. Mytting has kept the bar high in this second instalment.
