1983: Three university students embark on a week-long trip to make a documentary about roadside memorials for their school project. The project begins as a fun adventure, punctuated by long drives on empty roads and nightly bonfires where they begin to open up to each other.

But when they venture deeper into the Appalachian forests, the atmosphere begins to darken. They notice that more and more monuments contain a strange, disturbing symbol that points to a sinister secret. The paranoia deepens when they begin to feel they are being watched. Their vehicle is being tampered with overnight and some of the locals are anything but friendly.
