This book, which sparked an extraordinary response and interest in the United States (7 million copies sold to date, with the title not leaving the top ten bestseller list for a year and a half after its publication), is difficult to categorise by genre. The plot is structured around the story of Mack Phillips, whose family experiences a tragic event – Mack's youngest daughter, Missy, is abducted and killed by a serial murderer. However, the purpose and message of the book lie in depicting how Mack comes to terms with this loss. After some time, following a mysterious invitation, he returns to the shack where the horrific act was committed and there he meets God (in the form of a truly unusual trio of people), who helps him find the path to reconciliation. The book has the potential to captivate anyone in today's world who is trying to clarify their attitude towards God, faith, and the questions of good and evil, but above all, their relationships with people, family, loved ones, and themselves.
