The lady knows best

Series: MRS. GOODEO'S ADVICE / I

A historical romance from the early 19th century.

Working on the advice column of a women's magazine provides the outspoken Daphne Burke with a wonderful space for self-expression, but when she advises a high-society lady to break off her engagement to a notorious rake, she is forced to bear the unpleasant consequences.
Miles, Viscount Deveraux, often called “that devil Deveraux”, needs to find a respectable bride by the end of the season and has wagered his entire fortune that he will have one by then. When his fiancée changes her mind and, what's more, announces the broken engagement through the infamous magazine, it seems to him that the editor responsible should be the one to save him – preferably by marrying him. As Daphne longs to escape the pitfalls of the London marriage market, she pretends to agree to his proposal and courtship, but in reality, she intends to cause a scandal in a few weeks that will destroy him. She knows it will ruin her reputation too, but that suits her, as she hopes it will bring her freedom. However, her cunning plan doesn't go according to her original intentions…
